Maintenance Grant
Grant applications for the Fitness Center Grant are available at the beginning of September and due at the beginning of October each year. The application deadline has passed for the 2011-2012 school year.
Eligibility
Only schools that have received a Sound Body Sound Mind (SBSM) fitness center before the year 2008 are eligible for this Maintenance Grant.
Selection Criteria
Usage
- How often the fitness center is used
- How many students use the fitness center
- Whether or not PE students use the fitness center during class time
- Whether or not students can access the fitness center outside of the school day
- What the PE programming looks like as a whole
- How the SBSM fitness center is incorporated into programming
- How long students are guided into vigorous to moderate activity during class
- How accessible the fitness center is before, during and after school
- The quality of instruction/supervision in the fitness center
- Has the administration been able to control PE class sizes
- Has the administration purchased new equipment for the department or supplemental equipment for the fitness center
- Has the administration kept the fitness center clean and maintained
- Other ways that the administration has shown (or plans to show) dedication to keeping students active, healthy and fit
Requirements
Each school applying must provide the following by October 14th, 2011:
- Complete an application
- Completed applications are due by October 14th, 2011. The application is available at the top of this page.
- Application check list
- Schedule of usage (question 2)
- Scope of work (question 4)
- Itemized budget (question 5)
- Budget Narrative (question 5)
- Repair estimates and/or new equipment quotes (question 5)
Schools selected for the Sound Body Sound Mind Maintenance Grant have these further responsibilities that must be completed by February 15th, 2012:
- Use the money
- Each selected school will receive a check from Sound Body Sound Mind in the amount of $5,000. The school is to use the funds by February 15th, 2012 to repair equipment donated by Sound Body Sound Mind or purchase equipment that directly supplements the equipment donated by Sound Body Sound Mind. After February 15th, 2012, any excess funds over $500 must be returned to the Sound Body Sound Mind Foundation
- Attend a training
- Each PE department must attend a Sound Body Sound Mind Curriculum training. Contact nnambiar@soundbodysoundmind.org to schedule a training date.
- Complete and return the grant report
- A final grant report is due by February 15th, 2012. The details of this grant report will be available in December 2011. You will be asked for a budget of spending, invoices, an explanation of exactly what the grant funds were used to purchase and how these purchases improved the fitness center utilization.
