Program Description

The Sound Body Sound Mind program is a collaboration between the Cynthia L. & William E. Simon, Jr. Foundation, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and participating high schools. The program is geared towards those middle and high school students who do not regularly participate in organized athletic activities.

To date, the physical fitness program has been successfully introduced into 51 Los Angeles area high schools. Plans are in place to integrate Sound Body Sound Mind into 50 middle schools over the course of the next three years.

In the fall of 2005, the U.S. Department of Education awarded Sound Body Sound Mind a PEP Grant in the amount of $1,500,000. This year, Sound Body Sound Mind was awarded a grant of $500,000 from the Weingart Foundation and raised of $2,500,000 dollars in private funds.
