GRANT Description

Grant applications for the Fitness Center Grant are available at the beginning of October and due at the beginning of November each year.

The Sound Body Sound Mind program originated as a collaboration between the Cynthia L. & William E. Simon, Jr. Foundation, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and participating high schools. The program has now brached out nationwide to middle schools, high schools and districts around the United States. Sound Body Sound Mind is geared towards those middle and high school students who do not regularly participate in organized athletic activities.

To date, the physical fitness program has been successfully introduced into over 90 Los Angeles area high schools and middle schools. Plans are in place to integrate Sound Body Sound Mind into 100 schools by the end of 2011.

Sound Body Sound Mind has been supported and sustained by passionate donors as well as private, state and federal grants. Since it's establishment in 1999, the foundation has donated over $4 million to schools around the United States. With this funding, Sound Body Sound Mind will be able to reach 100 high schools and middle schools by the end of 2011.
