the Sound body sound mind curriculum
History
In 1999, Bill and Cindy Simon established the Sound Body Sound Mind (SBSM) foundation to promote self-confidence and healthy lifestyle choices among youth. The foundation began with the donation of a state-of-the-art fitness center to Pacific Palisades High School and has since grown to a network of nearly 100 fitness centers. Over the years, Sound Body Sound Mind has developed the equipment selection in its centers to fit the needs of the student population at each school. While the equipment provided a great opportunity for students to get fit, the foundation felt it was also important to impart the basics of fitness to both the students and teachers alike. In 2009, Sound Body Sound Mind partnered with the Competitive Athlete Training Zone to create the Sound Body Sound Mind curriculum.
CATZ Sports Performance (Competitive Athlete Training Zone) is recognized as a leading provider of sports performance training to athletes of all ages and abilities. For more than a decade, CATZ has trained athletes to enhance their speed, agility, strength, power, and quickness while also focusing on reducing the risk of injuries. CATZ operates 10 training centers around the country. In recent years, CATZ saw the need to train physical educators on how to create an environment that encourages all students to actively participate in more fitness-oriented physical education classes. The concepts of the curriculum are designed to motivate students to enjoy fitness by developing skilled movers that embrace exercise and physical activity. By doing so, CATZ hopes to make exercise and activity an integral part of the daily lives of students.
