Description

The Sound Body Sound Mind Curriculum was created as a medium through which teachers can educate students on the basics of fitness and movement. The curriculum is unique in that it combines the best elements of fitness-based physical education programs, team sports and researched-based youth development strategies. The goal of the curriculum is to develop participants into “skilled movers” as they progress through a series of 36 lessons that provide a structured, yet flexible, learning environment. The curriculum also focuses on what motivates youth to be active. The foundation believes this curriculum will allow athletes and nonathletes to systematically build their competence in regards to movement and fitness.

The Sound Body Sound Mind Curriculum uses a combination of strength exercises, cardio exercises and partner and team games to improve each participant’s:

  • Aerobic Capacity
  • Muscular Strength
  • Muscular Endurance
  • Balance
  • Flexibility
  • Core Strength
  • Agility
  • Object Manipulation Skills
  • Coordination
  • Cooperation
  • Competence
  • Rhythm

The Sound Body Sound Mind Curriculum is meant to be a fun and social experience for participants. By valuing the group’s effort and celebrating individual improvement, the Sound Body Sound Mind Foundation hopes this curriculum will allow students to escape the intimidating environment surrounding current fitness culture. If students absorb the basic fitness knowledge and experience that this curriculum has to offer, they will have the necessary tools to lead an active and healthy lifestyle.
